Mission

Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada is a publication by the Research Center for Applied Communication (CICA) of the School of Communication at Universidad Anáhuac México. The magazine’s mission is to publish articles originating from the work carried out by researchers around topics of interest for the development and improvement of society, culture, democracy, technology, innovation, institutions, and organizations; also that they contain a communicative view set on social reality where knowledge and the views of different disciplines may converge, but highlighting the essence of communication, which emerges from each problem that is researched.

 

Objectives

Objective 1. To publish research that deals with social and organizational problems from a communicative point of view of what is real; they should be methodologically rigorous, and contain a critic perspective based on contemporary communication theories supported by social and human sciences, and especially interested in evidencing the state of the art of the studied objects.

Objective 2. To contribute to building a communicative look typical of the discipline through the publication of original research which is rigorously rational, contributes to the improvement of society, and institutions and organizations in order to understand, and possibly solve, their problems.

 

Readers

Researchers, students and professionals whose line of work is communication and social problems viewed from the discipline of communication. Also readers who are interested in knowing a rigorously methodic, critic and purposeful communicative view to face the problems of social reality and organizations.

The magazine allows free, immediate access to its contents.

 

Regularity

The magazine is biannual.

It is intended for researchers, academics, professionals and communication scholars.

 

Manuscript processing time

The average processing time for manuscripts is six months.

 

 

Continuous reception of manuscripts

The receipt of articles for opinion and probable publication by Syntax is available continuously.

 

Section policies

Demand of original articles: Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada only accepts articles which have not been published partially or totally elsewhere.

The magazine has two sections.

1. Research articles

In this section, original articles which present the results of a field work that is methodically structured are accepted; they should part from a research problem where its communicative component is explained clearly as a main research category. Articles should contain a study of the problem’s state of the art, as well as a theoretical framework that lays the foundation for the analysis and discussion of the results obtained from the empirical work.

The structure required to present each paper is as follows:

• Title in Spanish and English

• Authors’ full names, including ORCID. Specify position, institution, and e-mail

• Abstract in Spanish and English

• Keywords in Spanish and English

• Introduction

• Definition of the problem

• Objectives and research questions

• Hypothesis

• Research problem’s state of the art

• Theoretical foundation: theoretical and contextual framework

• Explanation of the methodological framework

• Results

• Analysis and discussion

• Conclusions

• References in APA, 6th edition. Include the DOI of all consulted sources as a full URL; for example: https://doi.org/10.5468/ogs.2016.59.1.1   

• Articles should be 15 to 20 pages long, using Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 line spacing.

2. Book reviews

• Work’s title

• Work’s author or authors

• Publishing house, country and year of publishing

• Name of the person writing the review and their ORCID

• Review of the work, emphasizing sections and content, as well as novelty, originality, and relevance of the work for the discipline of communication

• Works should be three pages long, using Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 line spacing

 

Evaluation by peers

Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada rules received articles using a double-blind process. Once the Editor receives the text, he or she verifies that the article is relevant for the magazine and that it contains the required structure. The Editor then sends the text to two researchers who are experts on the matter; they will follow an evaluation rubric, in which they should justify one of the three possible results: accepted, accepted with modifications, and rejected.

The sections in the article ruling rubric are: 1) Topic’s originality and relevance; 2) Adequate structure of the text, logical order of ideas; 3) Methodological structure: objectives, methodology, results and discussion; 4) Solid argumentation, consistence, and rigorous analysis; 5) Use of adequate and current quotes and references; 6) Grammar, spelling, and clear exposition.

 

Anti-plagiarism policy

Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada has an anti-plagiarism policy to guarantee the originality of all manuscripts by using Turnitin, a detection solution of content similarity. Any total or partial similarity that is not properly quoted will be subject to rejection.

 

Open Access policy

Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada gives open access to its content under the principle that the research is available for free to readers, which supports a greater global knowledge exchange. Therefore, no fees will be charged to authors for sending, processing and/or publishing their articles.

The Creative Commons licence used by the magazine is the International Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0, which allows others to download the works and share them with other people, as long as authorship is recognized; however, works cannot be changed in any way nor be used commercially.

 

Code of Ethics

Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada adheres to the code of conduct and core practices established by the Committee on Publiation Ethics (COPE)https://publicationethics.org/core-practices

Also, the magazine has the following Code of Ethics:

• Defense and respect of human dignity.

• Defense and promotion of the superior interest of children.

Researcher honesty. Only articles of own authorship will be presented, which acknowledge other people’s ideas by adequately quoting them.

• Authors must recognize the work carried out by collaborators.

• Works by collaborators, students and associates shall not be presented as the author’s own.

• Authors shall assume responsibility of all presented ideas.

• Articles with racist ideas will not be accepted, nor those that promote violence of any kind.

• Ruling of articles will be carried out taking into consideration the content’s quality without any kind of discrimination.

Internally, Sintaxis. Revista científica del Centro de Investigación para la Comunicación Aplicada keeps all the documents published electronically in its editorial department.

Institutional Preservation. Universidad Anáhuac’s Technological Services Department backs and protects the website.

Universidad Anáhuac México’s Library holds the magazine not only for it to be consulted, but also for its preservation; it is also creating an integrated and more robust institutional repository.

This journal provides an OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative-Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) interface that allows other portals and information services to access the metadata of the published contents.
